In the Garden (Giardino dell'Anima)
Words and music by James Michael St. Clair; arranged by Kevin Ball with Suno. Produced with Suno.
The story
This song was written by my friend James Michael St. Clair, and I was the one who first performed it. I'm grateful to James for it.
In this arrangement I wanted to evoke what it might feel like to be with the Lord in the olive grove: the stillness of Gethsemane, the weight of what He carried, and the ache in the plea at the heart of the song...why must You cry for me?
Kevin
Lyrics
Verse 1
From the wine press
Comes a trickling stream of water
And it soaks up on the ground
As drop by drop
Its falling
Drop by drop it loses pressure
Silently without a sound
Chorus
Why must you cry, why must you cry, why must you cry for me
In the garden all alone
It isn't right that you should cry, that you should cry for me
Tears of blood that cleanse my soul!
Verse 2
Heavy eyelids
Hide the sight of so much water
As it stains the soil below!
And every drop that's falling
Is a drop of pain forgotten
Hidden deep within the flow
Chorus
Why must you cry, why must you cry, why must you cry for me
In the garden all alone
It isn't right that you should cry, that you should cry for me
Tears of blood that cleanse my soul
Outro
Oh please don't cry, oh please don't cry, oh please don't cry for me
In the garden all alone
But if it's so that you must cry, that you must cry for me
Cry your tears and cleanse my soul!
Cry your tears and cleanse my soul!
